As a member of the Peace Slate, I am committed to doing everything in our power to make a stand against unnecessary wars. I demand the immediate recall of all Oregon National Guard troops for Oregon Service. Prohibit the development, storage, and transport of all nuclear, biological, and chemical weapons in the state of Oregon.
As a teacher, I have seen firsthand the effects of good and bad education policy. We must ensure that the students of Oregon receive a quality education that is not defined by rigid standardized tests. We need more teachers and smaller class sizes. Parents, students, and teachers are the best to judge the quality of the school, so we need to ensure that they have a voice in the running of their schools. We must encourage schools that encourage creative, innovative, and diverse instruction from their teachers.
Oregon must have a transportation system that does not rely on cheap gasoline prices. More transportation options mean a higher quality of life for everyone. I will push for more funding for mass transit and bicycle paths.
Drug and alcohol abuse treatment should be available on demand for all who request it. I believe we should legalize marijuana use by adults and regulate its sale.
Environmental responsibility does not need to hinder economic growth. By investing in green buildings, renewable energy, and a more efficient transportation system, we will create jobs, and build the infrastructure that will serve us when the rest of the country is crippled by soaring energy costs. We then can export our experiences to the rest of the world as it faces catastrophic climate change.
